Who we are
Shine with Meya is a children’s storytelling app for ages 3–8, made in Canada by author Mmeyene Jasmine Umoren. This policy covers the app and this website. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean the maker of the app. If you have any questions, email hello@shinewithmeya.com.

What the app keeps, and where
To make reading personal, the app saves a few things only on your phone or tablet. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.

We don’t ask for, and the app doesn’t collect, last names, email addresses, phone numbers, photos, locations, contacts or advertising IDs. A nickname works just as well as a real name.
The microphone
The “Say it with Meya” activity lets a child record their brave words and hear them played straight back. The app only listens after the child taps the record button, and only after you allow microphone access. Recordings are not saved: each one is deleted when the child leaves the activity, and recordings are never uploaded or shared. You can turn off microphone access at any time in your device’s settings, and the rest of the app keeps working.
Reading aloud
Stories are read aloud using the voices built into your device. The app sends the story words to your device’s own speech feature. We don’t receive them.
No ads, no tracking, no sharing
The app has no advertising, no analytics or tracking tools, and no social features. Children can’t chat with or contact anyone through the app. We don’t sell, rent or share information with anyone.
Links that leave the app
The app may link to places to buy the book Meya: The Brave Little Star. Before any link opens, a grown-up check appears so that children can’t leave the app on their own. Websites outside the app have their own privacy policies.
This website
This website is for grown-ups. It has no sign-ups and no forms. If you email us, for example from the Contact page, we receive your email address and your message, and use them only to reply to you. We don’t add you to a mailing list or share your message with anyone.
Read-aloud videos on this website come from YouTube. A video only loads when you press play. After that, YouTube may collect information under its own privacy policy.
Children’s privacy
Shine with Meya is made for children and is designed to follow privacy laws, including Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States, and the GDPR and UK GDPR in Europe and the UK. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe information about your child has been sent to us, email hello@shinewithmeya.com and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you or your child, to correct it, to delete it, or to withdraw your consent. The app doesn’t send any personal information to us, so the only information we might hold is a message you sent through this website. If you have a question or a concern, email hello@shinewithmeya.com and we will reply within 30 days. In Canada, you can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information.
Deleting your information
To remove one child, open the grown-up settings and tap the bin icon next to their name under Readers. This deletes their name, brave stars and story voice from the device. Deleting the app removes everything it saved, including readers, stars, progress and settings. To have a message you sent us deleted, email hello@shinewithmeya.com.
Updates to the app
From time to time the app may download updates, such as new stories or fixes. These downloads don’t include any personal information.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy (for example, if we add stories you can buy), we will update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches the app. Purchases would always be handled by Apple or Google, and we would never see your payment details.
