Shine with Meya
Help and Support
The short version
Need help with the app, found a problem, or have an idea? Email hello@shinewithmeya.com and we’ll get back to you, usually within a few days.
Getting started
How do I add my child?
On the Home screen, under “Who’s reading?”, tap + Add. Type your child’s first name or a nickname and choose their age group. The app then picks stories and activities at the right level.
Can more than one child use the app?
Yes. Add each child under “Who’s reading?”, then tap a child’s name to choose who’s reading. Each child has their own brave stars and story voice.
How do I change the reading level?
On the first page of a Meya’s Journey story, choose a reading level (3–4, 5–6 or 7–8). In “Things to do”, you can also choose the age group at the top of the screen.
Reading and voices
How does read-along work?
Tap the play button on any page. The words light up as they are read aloud. Tap it again to pause.
I can’t hear the story. What should I do?
- Turn up your device’s volume.
- Check that the device isn’t connected to headphones or a speaker you can’t hear.
- Close the app completely and open it again.
Can my child choose the story voice?
Yes. On the Home screen, tap My story voice and choose a girl or boy voice. The app uses voices built into your device, so they sound a little different on each phone or tablet. On iPhone and iPad, you can download extra voices for free in Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.
Bedtime
What is bedtime mode?
In the evening, the app switches to calm, darker colors and a softer, slower voice, and offers a sleep timer that gently ends story time. A grown-up can choose Automatic, Daytime or Bedtime, set when bedtime starts, and change the sleep timer in the grown-up settings.
For grown-ups
How do I open the grown-up settings?
Tap the gear on the Home screen, then answer the grown-up question. This keeps settings and links that leave the app away from little fingers.
Why does the app ask to use the microphone?
Only for the “Say it with Meya” activity, where a child records their brave words and hears them played back. Recordings are never saved or shared. You can say no, or turn the microphone off later in your device’s settings, and everything else keeps working.
Does the app collect my child’s information?
No. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking. A child’s name, stars and settings stay on your device. Read our Privacy Policy for details.
How do I remove a child?
Open the grown-up settings, find the child under Readers, tap the bin icon, then tap Remove. Their name, brave stars and story voice are deleted from the device.
How do I delete everything?
Delete the app from your device. This removes all readers, stars, progress and settings.
Can teachers use the app in class?
Yes. Teachers are welcome to read the stories aloud and use the activities with their students. See our Terms of Use, and visit Teacher Resources for discussion guides.
